The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) fall season continued Thursday night across the island with football and volleyball action. With October approaching, BIIF playoffs for both sports will begin in the next handful of weeks.
Pahoa 28, Ka‘u 16
Pahoa football earned its first win of 2024 with a 28-16 victory over Ka‘u on Thursday night at Kea‘au High School.
The outing was the first battle between the two teams, as the Aug. 24 game was postponed due to tropical storms. A make-up date is still yet to be announced.
West Hawaii Today and Hawaii Tribune-Herald were unable to obtain a box score from this game by deadline.
The victorious Daggers (1-4) will try to keep riding their momentum in their next test against the Dragons, slated for Friday night in Honoka‘a town.
With the loss, the 1-4 Trojans are tied with Pahoa at the bottom of BIIF Division II. With its third consecutive loss, Ka‘u will aim to rebound against Kohala next Saturday in Pahala.
Parker 3, Kohala 0
Parker girls volleyball stayed in front of the BIIF Division II standings after a straight-sets win over Kohala on Thursday in Kapa‘au. The match served as a make-up event after Monday’s scheduled bout was postponed.
The top-seeded Bulls made quick work of the Cowgirls, winning 25-11, 25-17 and 25-19. With the win, Parker became the first team in BIIF Division II to reach double-digit wins (10-1).
The Bulls will next be tested against Makua Lani Christian Academy on Wednesday night inside Waimea District Park Gymnasium.
Kohala fell to 5-6 and is near the middle of BIIF DII standings. The Cowgirls will next face Ehunui on Monday night in Kapa‘au.
JV: Parker wins 2-1 — 25-20, 20-25, 15-10.
HPA 3, Kealakehe 0
Hawaii Preparatory Academy maintained its No. 2 spot in BIIF Division II after a straight-sets win over visiting Kealakehe on Thursday inside Castle Gymnasium.
Ka Makani beat the Waveriders 25-12, 26-12 and 25-18. HPA cruised to 9-1 on the season, only a half-game behind Parker. However, Ka Makani holds the tiebreaker between the two after beating the Bulls earlier this month.
HPA will next play Kanu on Tuesday night inside Castle Gymnasium.
Kealakehe fell to 5-6, but stayed in fifth overall in BIIF Division I. The ‘Riders will next drive north to the Hamakua Coast to face the Dragons on Tuesday in Honokaa‘a town.
JV: HPA wins 2-0 — 25-23, 25-11.
